Inserted in a rural landscape characterized by traditional and natural elements typical of the region, with excellent sun exposure, the property also has a natural watercourse that runs through the entire area of the house! The mountain in the background creates a picturesque setting of great scenic beauty and cultural value, where rural life and traditions remain vibrant.
Information
The irrigation tank and the walnut tree were chosen by architects José Mateus and Nuno Mateus from ARX Portugal as the starting point for the design of the house, which won the 2008 Mafra Municipal Prize in the New Construction category. The project developed an intimate relationship with the ground plan, transforming the house into the ground on which you walk! Throughout the body of the house, the patios are "sculpted", creating intimate and tranquil spaces. The top of the master bedroom is narrow and high, "looking out" over the valley to the east, while the wide, flat top contains the living room, "overlooking" the valley to the south.
The bedroom area is served by an austere corridor, with ends characterized by opposite realities: to the north, it opens onto a low, contained and intimate courtyard; at the opposite end, it opens onto a landscape of great depth, with the walnut tree in the foreground and the mountain in the distance.
The W. Hoffmann piano in the house is a testament to the excellence of European piano construction, providing a unique and expressive sound that is dynamic and richly textured.
